Oral tissue biopsy may be necessary for lesions that cannot be diagnosed on the basis of the history and clinical findings alone. An oral biopsy may be indicated due to a persistent oral abnormality, lesions are red or white or ulcerated, is attached deep into the tissue or oral cancer is considered either due to heredity or habits.

If an oral biopsy is recommended Dr. Murphy will remove the suspicious area and will have the sample diagnosed by Chapel Hill. The results are usually available in about ten days and will be reviewed with you along with any recommendations.
